Art Afterschool Presents
Grand Art Show
The students in the Art Afterschool program revealed their masterpieces in The Grand Art Show with a reception on April 1. The many fine works of art produced by the students wlll remain on display until April 15 in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center.
"I pour my heart and soul into this program," said Ms. Stacy Bowen, Art Afterschool instructor. "It is all worthwhile when I see students get excited to show their piece of art to a parent or teacher."
In the spring session of eight classes, the first and second graders produced Gyotaku fish prints, Wayne Theibaud cakes, spring flowers watercolors, and nature textile tiles.
The third and fourth grade students worked with "under the sea" printmaking, stick sculptures, "taco fish," and weaving with tissue paper to produce plaid patterns.
Fifth and sixth graders displayed works of plein-air paintings, eraser stamps, illuminated clay letters, and Alexander Calder wire sculptures.
The students learned many skills during the classes, such as blending colors, using unusual materials, and working in both two and three dimensions.
About 150 people came to the opening on the evening of April 1. The students, families, and friends were very excited to see the works on display.
"That is what it is all about..." said Ms. Bowen. "...to make the students feel good about making art so they will pursue it more as they grow older."
Art Afterschool has ended for this year. Students who wish to participate next year should sign up at book day/orientation day in August.
