Dear New 5th Graders, Here are the directions for your Summer Reading Project. Use the suitcase that you have created in art as the base for this project. If you are a new student, just create a small suitcase from a shirt box. I can't wait to see you in the fall. Happy reading!

Directions:
1. Choose any Carole Marsh Mystery. Have fun selecting from places in our country or internationally. You may want to coordinate your choice with your summer travel plans!
2. Use the provided ticket template to design a ticket for any attraction from your book. Add information about your attraction (such as the name) and an illustration. You may even make up a date, time, or price.
3. Create a map from your house to the location in your book. Although you may use the Internet to help you, be sure to create your own map. Work neatly and add color.
4. What souvenirs would you have from this trip? Please choose 3 items and write a paragraph for each that explains their importance to your story. These may be done in pen and cursive or typed.
5. Create a luggage tag for your suitcase. This must include your name, the name of your book, and the author. This can be very plain or can be embellished to suit your personality.
Optional—
Feel free to decorate the outside of your suitcase to further represent the location of your story.
