Student Artwork on Display at JIA

Self-portraits by JCDS students will be on display through February at Jacksonville International Airport.

Once again JCDS student art will grace the concourses of the Jacksonville airport in a most impressive way. Sixth grade students have worked long and hard to complete self-portraits, which were created using changes in value. The project originated with individual photos taken in our computer lab. The photos were enlarged then the areas of gray were outlined, copied, redrawn, and painted. Using white and black tempera, students worked meticulously mixing the various shades of gray to fill in all areas of the painting. In an effort to maximize the visual impact and sophistication of the exhibit, the pieces were professionally framed.
The exhibit is comprised of 15 portraits and will be on display from December through February. They are located beyond security in the center of the concourse. If you have plans to travel or are expecting travelers over the holiday, please remember to see these wonderful self-portraits created by the talented children here at JCDS.
Congratulations to Hamp S., Kimberly H., Kim V., Parker K., Austin G., Owen J., Brooke M., Alexis T., Maggie M., Kathryn L., Landon T., Emily D., Suzanna D., Madeline C., and Jack Y. on such an outstanding effort. ![]()
