Jane R. Wood talks to fourth graders.Author Jane R. Wood visited with the fourth grade on March 8, 2010. Mrs. Wood spent over an hour with the students in the library, talking about writing and her life experiences.

As part of their studies on Florida history, the fourth grader have read three of Mrs. Wood's books. Voices in St. Augustine and Adventures on Amelia Island are exciting stories which contain historical elements. Trouble on the St. John's River features an environmental theme. Students completed a web search activity relating to each book.

Mrs. Wood talked about two rules about writing: "write what you know" and "do your research." She said that many of the scenes in the book were based on actual events in her life. The main characters of Joey, Bobby, and Katy are actually versions of her sons and her nieces. In addition, she said she spend many hours researching each book to make sure it is historically accurate.
