Want to Play Chess?

Students playing chess.UPDATE:
The first meeting of this year's chess club was attended by 21 students with 3 others sending regrets due to other appointments. So it looks like we're in for a big year!

Some of this year's club members are just learning the game and Mr. Matt Wilson, the JCDS Technology Director, has graciously agreed to come to our meetings and work directly with these future champions!!!

Club Moms Kim Fishback and Tamara Delahanty are also always willing to do whatever they can to help out the Club and we are very fortunate to have them on our team.

I'm very excited to be able to work with this fine group of youngsters and am looking forward to a delightful and rewarding year. Please feel free to stop by any club meeting at anytime .. we'd be glad to have you.

ORIGINAL STORY:
The JCDS Chess Club will have its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 15 after school in the Spanish room. All students in grade 2 and up are welcome to join.

There is no charge for membership, and the only requirement is you have to know how to play the game. Once again, Mr. Mike Morrow will serve as sponsor and Chess Master.

Chess is an excellent way of developing thinking strategies, since you have to "think ahead" of your opponent. It encourages abstract thinking and concrete analysis. But most of all, chess is fun!

Mr. Mike Morrow, chess master"Chess is social as well as educational," said Mr. Morrow. "Students will learn to improve their game, and will participate in official chess tournaments."

After the first organizational meeting, the Chess Club will meet on the third Tuesday of each month from 3:05pm - 4:00pm. After each meeting, students will be escorted to the front circle for pick up or to Extended Day. end mark
