Butterflies are Free!
On a rainy day in May, the second graders celebrated the finale on their unit on butterflies by releasing their captives into the wild.
The second graders raised the butterflies from the caterpillar stage, and anxiously awaited their metamorphasis into beautiful butterflies.
Many of the butterflies seemed reluctant to leave the comfort of their habitats, and had to be encouraged to fly away. However, with a little prodding, they all finally took flight.
The entire second grade and many other students braved the rain and gathered around the north circle to wave goodbye as the butterflies flew into the distance.
The first graders, of course, can something to look forward to. Next year, they will be able to participate in this project themselves.
