Sharks Soccer vs San Jose EpiscopalFifth Graders Visit Savannah
The fifth grade traveled to Savannah, GA on Friday, April 4. They visited the Savannah History Museum, First African Baptist Church, Massie School, Colonial Cemetary, and Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Art With a HeartStudent Council Creates Art With a Heart
At the Student Council meeting on February 5, members created smiley faces on canvas frames to present to patients at Wolfson Childrens Hospital. The Art With a Heart project is part of the Student Council's service learning.

2014 Geography Bee WinndersWe have a W-I-N-N-E-R!
Mallorie S. won the spelling bee on January 15, with Aadil T. as the runner-up.

This year's bee included some difficult words like superfluous, panache, carcinogen, and ostracism. Mallorie's winning word was accusatory.

2014 Geography Bee WinndersQ: Into what bay does the Potomac River empty?
On January 8, 2014 nine students competed in the annual Geography Bee. The winner was fifth grader Phillip N. The runner up was Charu C., a sixth grader. Phillip will go on to the regional competition.

The Potomac River empties into Chesapeake Bay. This was the winning answer in the Geography Bee.

Arriving at JCDS in the coldHappy New Year...BRRRR!
The first day back from winter break was the coldest day of the year. Students bundled up to stay warm, but everyone was happy to be back.

5th/6th Grade Basketball ChampsWe Are the Champions!
The 5th and 6th grade boys won their conference basketball tournament on December 11. We are so proud of our Sharks!

December in Our Town showFourth Grade Welcomes the Holidays
JCDS fourth graders made the upcoming holidays more festive with their show, "December in Our Town," presented December 5 in the Fine Arts Center auditorium. The students highlighted celebrations of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali.

3rd Grade Veterans Day ShowThird Grade Salutes Veterans
JCDS third graders presented their annual Veterans Day Show on Tuesday, November 11. After the presentation of the flag, students sang the National Anthem and one song dedicated to each major branch of the military. Audience members who have served our country in the armed forces were recognized with a round of applause.
